About Dr. Bishop
Dr. Jeffrey M. Bishop, DO is the Medical Director of Ascend Recovery Center's Florida operations, with over 30 years of clinical practice in family medicine and addiction medicine. Dr. Bishop is dual board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Addiction Medicine, and he holds a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Prior to joining Ascend, Dr. Bishop served as Chief Medical Officer and Chief of Staff at Wellington Regional Medical Center, where he led the medical staff through accreditation, quality improvement, and integrated care initiatives. He is also a U.S. Navy veteran, having served as a medical officer with multiple operational deployments. At Ascend, Dr. Bishop oversees all medical aspects of treatment programming — including medication-assisted treatment (MAT) prescribing for opioid and alcohol use disorders, psychiatric medication management for co-occurring depression, anxiety, PTSD, and bipolar disorder, detox referral coordination with DCF-licensed medical detox partners, and the medical integration of complex co-occurring conditions including hepatitis C, HIV, chronic pain, and cardiovascular disease. Dr. Bishop's clinical philosophy emphasizes the chronic disease model of addiction (per McLellan et al., 2000) and the evidence-based pharmacological standard of care for substance use disorders — buprenorphine for OUD, naltrexone for OUD and AUD, acamprosate for AUD maintenance, and disulfiram for motivated patients with accountability structures.
